Frequently asked questions

What is the weather like in Vail in July-August?

Vail enjoys very warm days and very cool evenings during the summer months. Daytime temperatures range from 70°-80°, while evenings can cool down to the mid-40°s to 50°s. The couple recommends dressing in layers to stay comfortable, especially as the sun sets.

What is the deal with the altitude?!

Vail Village sits at an elevation of 8,150' and the weekend's events will reach as high as 10,300', so some guests may feel the effects of the altitude, such as shortness of breath or mild headaches. To help acclimate:

  • Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your visit (an extra half-gallon or more per day per adult!)

  • Limit alcohol and caffeine (not too much!!!) since both can dehydrate you and can make altitude symptoms worse

  • Give your body time to adjust by taking it easy with physical activity, especially if you’re hiking or exploring outdoors

  • Get a good night's sleep to let your body recover and adapt to the thinner air

  • Consider arriving a day early or staying in Denver for a night to give yourself more time to adjust

How dry is it in Colorado?

Colorado is actually quite dry! With lower humidity levels compared to many parts of the US (we're looking at you Oregon and Minnesota!), guests should be sure to pack moisturizer, lip balm, and plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Are there any wildfire risks?

Wildfires can occur in the Rocky Mountains, but the Vail Valley typically experiences fewer fires compared to other areas due to its higher elevation and cooler summer temperatures. That said, wildfire risk depends on seasonal conditions, such as rainfall and dryness. Local authorities closely monitor conditions, and any necessary precautions will be communicated promptly. Bobby and Sarah will keep an eye on updates leading up to the wedding and ensure all guests are informed of any changes.

What should I pack and wear?

When packing for the weekend, know that almost anything goes in Vail, and if you forget something, there are plenty of stores nearby to help you out! Here are some tips to help you pack:

  • Mountain casual: Many of the weekend's events will embrace the relaxed, yet polished, style Vail is known for. This can mean nice jeans or chinos and a collared shirt for men, and casual dresses or pants for women.

  • Black tie: For the ceremony and reception, the couple requests black tie attire. For men, this typically means a tuxedo or dark suit, and for women, a floor-length gown, formal cocktail dress, or similar. Given the drastically changing mountain temperatures, guests are encouraged to bring an extra layer, wrap, or shawl to stay comfortable at Piney River Ranch.

  • Other good tips:

    • Pack light, breathable clothing for daytime activities and a warm jacket for cooler evenings

    • Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are essentials for the strong Colorado sun, especially at high elevations

    • Bring sturdy shoes for hiking or exploring Colorado's outdoors
