Getting there
Getting to Colorado is a breeze with plenty of flight options available. The drive to Vail on I-70 is picturesque, and there are numerous mountain towns to stop in along the way to break up the 2-hour trip.
Once you arrive, ample parking and the free in-town bus service make it simple to relax and enjoy your visit. Vail is perfect for tourists, with numerous hotels and vacation rentals, great restaurants, and activities for all to enjoy.
Flights
Vail is accessible via two airports: Denver International Airport (DEN) and Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE). Located on the eastern side of Denver, DEN is about a 2-hour drive from Vail and offers numerous daily flights. EGE, just a 40-minute drive away, provides a quicker option but has more limited flight schedules.

Both airports have access to several shuttle services that drive directly to Vail Village, or you can rent a car for more flexibility.
Driving West
I-70 is the main route from Denver to Vail, but traffic can be unpredictable, especially on weekends and holidays. Summer construction is also common, so be prepared for regular delays and allow plenty of extra travel time.
To break up the drive, consider stopping in Idaho Springs, where you’ll find some great restaurants and breweries. Westbound & Down has great beers and burgers (get the cheesesteak!), Tommyknocker offers the same, and Smokin Yards BBQ is a classic post-skiing stop. If you’re passing through Frisco, grab a pint at Outer Range Brewing and wave to Sarah’s first Colorado home, which she shared with bridesmaid Erin!

Keep your eyes peeled for the City of Denver’s buffalo herd just west of Exit 254 (Genessee Park)!
Getting in to Town
Parking in Vail is easy with two main public garages in Vail Village and Lionshead, both offering convenient access to shops, dining, and mountain activities. These garages are the best options for day visitors (free for the day, $35 overnight), while hotels may provide additional parking services for their guests.
In-Town Bus Service
Vail offers a convenient, free in-town bus service that makes it easy to hop on and off throughout the village, whether you’re heading to the hotels, shopping, or dining. The buses run regularly, so getting around town is simple and stress-free. Just look for a bus stop and the digital sign showing the next expected arrival.
If you’re traveling outside of the city of Vail, additional bus service is available throughout Eagle County for a small fee. For more details on routes and schedules, visit Vail.gov.
